Sony’s found a lot of success with their PlayStation VR headset for the PS4 selling over 4 million units since it’s release at the end of 2016. They’ve also backed up the hardware with over 200 games in it’s library. With almost 100 million PS4’s sold, PSVR is one of the most accessible ways to get into virtual reality.
There’s only one real problem and it’s shared by many VR headsets: The damn cord that connects you to the hardware! It seems like Sony may have an answer for this issue via a patent they recently filed showing a wireless headset.
As discovered by PlayStation Lifestyle, this filing shows what looks to be an “inside out” tracking version of a headset be it for the PS4 or more likely a peek at the PlayStation 5 VR headset.
The patent description is a vague as usual:
“program capable of switching a frequency band used for communication earlier than before according to a change in an environment in which a communication device or a communication partner is placed.”
What we can gleam though is that Sony is planning for a continued future in the VR space and that’s great for fans and the industry overall.
