The creator of PUBG is leaving it’s active development to incubate special projects.

Brendan Greene, the man known as “Player Unknown” and the creator of “PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds” (PUBG) is moving away from active development of the game.

“The past five years of my life has been all about battle royale,” Greene announced today. “From the early days working on a mod to getting the chance to create my vision for a battle royale title, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.”

“It’s been an incredible journey and our game has reached heights I never thought possible. Seeing the game grow into what it is today has been a dream come true and I can’t thank our fans and the incredible team at PUBG Corporation enough.”

Brendan’s next focus will be from their Amsterdam offices leading a “PUBG Special Projects” team. What the team will be up to is unknown but it will seemingly tie back into PUBG.

The core PUBG game will continue it’s development without Greene’s day to day oversight but he will still retain a position as creative director.

Perhaps in the light of Fortnite and Apex Legends, PUBG Special Projects will be able to create something new and exciting for the future battle royale space.
