Interbrand has released it’s 2018 most globally recognized brands with Nintendo returning after a four year hiatus.

Interbrand is a well known consultancy firm who compiles a yearly list of the most recognized brands in the global market. While some of the names stay in the top like Amazon, Google and Microsoft each year, Nintendo has been missing since 2014, a year and two months after their failed Wii U console launched.

The Nintendo Switch has erased a lot of the Wii U’s failure by selling 20 million units in it’s first year vs. the lifetime sales of the Wii U at 13 million. It’s also become a port magnet for Wii U games that were ignored due to the console’s low popularity.

While Nintendo is only hitting 99th place with their competitors Sony at 56th and Microsoft at 5th it’s still a great return for the company that will only be bolstered by their aggressive IP expansions including theme parts with Universal and an animated Mario movie in the works.
