PUBG Corp and Tencent have teamed up for the Star Challenge tournament providing $600,000 for lucky teams across Europe, Asia, North America, South America, Japan/Korea, and China.
These teams aren’t going to be made up of the the normal sort either. The four man Star Challenge teams will be composed not only by pro players but also celebrities and famous internet personalities. In fact, just to qualify for the event, one team member must have over 1000 followers/Subs etc. The top 20 of these teams per region will qualify for the $600k grand finals in Dubai later this year.
It seems obvious that PUBG Corp is looking to make it’s live event broadcasts more interesting to watch with the push for celebrity. It’s an interesting problem indeed as PUBG is a serious and realistic game compared to it’s competitors and that in it’s nature makes viewing more subdued.
It will be interesting to watch no doubt.
