MLB “BREAKING NEWS”: CARDS CARPENTER GOES 5-5 WITH 5 EXTRA BASE HITS – MAJOR LEAGUE RECORD! (*SAT. JULY 20, 2018)

Most MLB teams returned tonight from a 4 day break thanks to the All Star Break, but the St. Louis Cardinals were one of two teams that played last night too. So with a few extra at bats to start the second half, Matt Carpenter went out and had the best hitting night of his career, and he tied a Major League record in the process.

Carpenter led of the game with a Home Run, hit two doubles in the 4th inning, and ended up with a 5-5 night overall, with 3 homers. He was pulled after his third homer of the game, in the sixth inning, when he blasted a 3 run shot, leading the way for a 18-5 Cards blowout win over their rival Chicago Cubs.

Carpenter has not hit a home run in 4 straight games and he’s also now led off a game this year 6x with a homer. He now has 20 leadoff homers in his career.
