Since the winter meetings, one thing we all knew was that the Orioles Manny Machado would be traded at some point before the July 31st deadline. For the LA Dodgers this year Christmas came early. They landed the superstar slugger in a mega deal sending the Orioles all young prospects and not touching their initial 25 man current roster at all.
The Orioles received five prospects: “centerpiece of the deal” outfielder Yusniel Diaz, right-hander Dean Kremer, third baseman Rylan Bannon, righty Zach Pop and third baseman Breyvic Valera. Diaz is considered to be an absolute MLB “Superstar” and this deal really helps replace a barron Orioles farm system.
Machado will be the perfect fill in for Dodgers young stud SS Corey Seager, who is sidelined the rest of the season due to injury. The Dodgers already lead the majors in Home Runs and adding Machado’s thunder bat will only improve that stat greatly the rest of the season.
The Dodgers are swinging for the fences this year as they don’t want to have to feel that horrible feeling they’ve felt the past few seasons, falling short of that coveted World Series Crown. They are now the clear favorites to win the N.L. Title.
GARY’S FINAL PITCH:
I fully expect the Dodgers to make at least one more big deal, likely for a solid Starting Pitcher, and if not, a very strong Bullpen arm. The team has been playing at another level the past month and adding a stud like Machado, who likely will hit cleanup, will be a lineup that is really potent throughout. Tinseltown is back on the map in a big way after this gigantic trade.
