TWO PLAYOFF BOUND TEAMS FACE OFF IN GAME 3 OF 4 GAME SET TO CLOSE OUT FIRST HALF OF SEASON ON FOX SPORTS TV!
Well coming into this 2018 MLB season we fully expected the Cleveland Indians to easily win the AL Central Division and at this point they seem fully in command to do just that. The NY Yankees on the other hand came in with some question marks in the starting Pitching Staff and of course also must beat out the very loaded Red Sox team to be able to win the AL East spot. Until last week the Yankees either led the AL East or were no more then 2 games out for most of the season. Heading into tonight’s game though they trail by 3 1/2 games and are looking to head into the Break on Monday with that margin closer.
For the Yankees they will send an old veteran who is now 37 years old, but pitching like a 27 year old. CC Sabathia will take the hill for the Bronx Bombers tonight at Progressive Field and it will be at a memorable spot as CC made his first ever Major League start at the very young age of 20 years old. Tonight he will make his 557th start of his career.
Sabathia had a solid streak going of 7 straight starts without allowing over 3 runs, but he struggled in his last start on Monday, where he only lasted 5 innings, giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 walks. He was deep into many counts and ended up throwing 99 pitches in that short 5 inning stint. He is not one to go too deep into a start, going 5, 6, 7 and 5.1 innings in his last 4 starts, eclipsing the 100 pitch count in 3 of those 4. He has allowed 3 homers and 6 walks in his last 2 starts combined. He has been solid though this season for the Yankees, with a (3.34) ERA, and allowing 94 hits in (94.1) innings. He has issued only 27 walks this season, while striking out 75 strikeouts.
The Tribe will send a very reliable Mike Clevinger to the hill tonight, and he will be facing a Yankees club for the second time in this 2018 season. In his first start vs. the Bombers he allowed only 1 hit in 7 1/3 innings of work, with 10 K’s, allowing 2 earned runs. The Bullpen imploded for the Indians in that game and the Yankees got the win, 7-4. Clevinger has had a fine season so far, (7-4), (3.34) with 110 K’s amd only 39 walks. He has only allowed 8 home runs all season.
Clevinger, much like Sabathia, had a rough last start, losing to the Rds (7-5) and allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits and issuing 3 walks. He has a (5.40) ERA in 2 career starts vs. the Yankees.

GARY’S FINAL PITCH:
The Yankees come into tonight’s game 3 1/2 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East, as they have lost 3 full games the past 10 games even though they have gone (6-4) due to the Red Sox winning 9 of it’s last 10 games. The Yankees have been outstanding on the Road this season, going 28-19. The Yankees have outscored it’s opponents this year by 133 runs.
The Indians come in 7 1/2 games in first place, going 5-5 in it’s last 10 games and outscoring it’s opponents this year by 80 runs. They are 30-18 at home at Progressive Field this season.
The two teams have split the first two games of this Series, with the Yankees victorious on Thursday night 7-4, and the Tribe winning last night 6-5. They will wrap this Series up Sunday and then both head to the All Star Break on Monday, although both teams will be well supported at the All Star Game on Tuesday night in D.C.
