GARY’S FINAL PITCH:

Well there are always some who get picked who really don’t deserve to go “THIS YEAR”, but go off past merits and fan love. This years winner of that award goes to the Nats Bryce Harper, who in no way deserves to be on this years NL All Star squad.

Hats off to the Dodgers Matt Kemp for making the team as a Starter. Coming into this season he looked like he could be waived and out of baseball for good. Instead he’s raking as one of the best hitters in the entire league. Kudos to Kemp for losing weight and coming into Spring Training in great shape and focused on working hard and putting his ego aside and instead getting the 24/7 passion back. He’s a gigantic reason the Dodgers hung in the race in first few months and now will be a huge part of their success in making Playoffs or not making them. Comeback Player of Year has his name written all over it if he keep up same pace as first half.

The Indians, Red Sox and Astros all have 5 players on this years All Star rosters. The Braves have 4 and yet the first place Phillies will send just one (Aaron Nola).

The biggest snub is the Tampa Bay Rays stud Pitcher, Blake Snell. He got tangled into a bad web situation and is by far most glaring deficit on this years rosters. Due to the Players voting in OF George Springer, the Tigers, who must have one player represent the team, had to select P Joe Jiminez instead of the more deserving Nick Castellanos. I like the rule of all teams must having one player represent, but it’s a shame Castellanos has to miss out to do a numbers game at different positions.

There are still 2 roster spots still to be earned, one in each league. There are five guys in each league now facing off with Fans making the deciding vote in each league. My two picks most deserving are Max Muncy of the Dodgers in the NL, and Andrellton Simmons of the Angels in the AL. The Red Sox and Cardinals have teamed up together to get each of their teams guy in as did the Yankees and Dodgers to get each of their teams guy in. Last year the Dodgers 3B Justin Turner got 20.8 million Votes in this special BIG 5 added vote, the highest total ever, which likely bodes well for his team mate Max Muncy, in this years voting.

Congrats to first time All Stars Shin-soo Choo (Rangers) and Nick Markakis (Braves) for their first chance at this prestigious Game. Being a KC Royals fan, I love Catcher Salvy Perez, but in no way should he have been the teams one player represented, as Whitt Merrifield was the much more deserving player. Baseball clearly still has some really bad flaws in this final selection process.

Enjoy the great event next week.
