TWO OF MLB BEST STARTERS FACE OFF IN L.A. FOR RUBBER GAME OF SERIES!
As we enter play today the Dodgers, who were predicted to have 100 win season and be the best team in the N.L., enters with a .500 record (32-32). The Braves, a rebuilding team expected to maybe make a push for a Wild Card spot, sit at (37-27) and tied for first place in the NL East. The Dodgers won Friday night and the Braves won last night, making this the rubber game of the 3 game Series.
First the Braves, who send their best Starter so far, Sean Newcombe, who is (7-1) on the season so far, having not lost a start since his first start on April 2. He is 4th in MLB with a (.201) batting average. His last 7 starts have all been filthy good, allowing 0, 2, 3, 0, 0, 0 earned runs. He’s also gotten the best run support of any Braves starter, getting 59 runs so far, over 5 runs per start, and over 1 1/2 runs more on average then any other Braves starter. He has a (2.49) ERA, allowing only (49) hits in (68.2) innings. He has only allowed 3 homers all season long. His only black mark has been a high number of walks, with (33) so far, which is 3rd most in the NL. His last 5 starts combined, he’s gotten (20) K’s but has issued (15) walks. He is (0-1) lifetime in 2 career starts vs. LA with a (5.06) ERA. He has not allowed a Homer his past 5 starts.
For the Dodgers, they will send young Ross Stripling to the hill. He has been a huge shot in the arm for a staff riddled with injuries. He has been superb with a (4-1) record, (1.52) ERA, in (53.1) innings of work. He has (66) K’s and only allowed (11) walks. He has only allowed 3 homers all season. His last 5 starts his command has been sensational, with (42) K’s, (2) walks in (30) innings of work. His curve ball was revamped this off season and its been working to near perfection and even has more velocity on it, keep opposing hitters off balance at the plate. His last 4 starts have been near perfect, allowing only 0, 1, 0, 1 earned runs.
LAS VEGAS BETTING LINE: LA DODGERS (-$155) * TOTAL: (7) (-$125) vs. ATLANTA
GARY’S FINAL PITCH: This is a supreme Pitching matchup as both Starters are in elite form so far this season and both have given their teams a chance to win nearly every start. The Dodgers, surprisingly, are just (15-18) at Home, making it impossible to lay (-$155) here against a guy pitching at the highest level in all MLB so far.
I’d fully expect this to be a lower scoring game, as both teams will need 3 hits to get in a run as both starters not allowing Homers and Stripling not even allowing a walk.
This should come down to the bullpen as it could easily by 1-1 type game heading to the later innings. The Braves will be happy to head home off this overall poor West Coast road swing.
