Esports is DraftKing’s fastest growing Category up 59% over last year.

DraftKings is one of the leading Fantasy Sports betting websites / Mobile Apps today. Since being founded in 2015 they’ve paid out over 5 billion dollars and have become a mainstay of fantasy betting. (and are now moving aggressively into direct sports betting thanks to it’s recent legalization state by state)

In addition, DraftKings was one of the first companies to offer Fantasy Esports wagering with League of Legends back in 2015. Since adopting LOL they’ve seen over 2.5 million entries and a growth spike of 59% this year. It seems that combined with the new sports betting laws has peaked DraftKing’s interest in the Esports space more thoroughly.

Spreaking to NBC – Matt Kalish, CRO of DraftKings:

“We are certainly aware of how fast the sport has grown. One of the reasons we believe esports could be much bigger on DraftKings is we haven’t really penetrated to the full breadth of games.”

It will be interesting to see how quickly they can mobilize on direct sports betting and if Esports will be front and center of that at launch.
