Epic Games is getting serious about Fortnite Esports pledging to provide $100,000,000 in prize money for events over the 2018-2019 term. That is one massive amount of money to invest into Fortnite Esports. It sends a loud and clear message that Epic sees Esports as a pillar of the game going forward and they aren’t afraid to invest in their player community.
Epic also claims that Fortnite Esports will be more inclusive and modeled slightly different than traditional events. I’m expecting this model to be based on the huge success of the Ninja event at Esports Arena Las Vegas. More show, less sport – with a focus on players interacting with celebrities.
Fantastic news for both fans of Fortnite and Esports in general.
