NBA: EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS – GAME 1 – CAVS @ CELTICS * TD GARDEN (12:30pm/PST) – “HAPPY MOTHERS DAY”!

REMATCH OF LAST YEARS EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS TIPS OFF ON MOTHERS DAY – LAST STOP FOR LEBRON TO ADVANCE TO 8TH STRAIGHT FINALS!

Well folks, last year it was #1 vs. #2 in the East, and this year it’s surprisingly #2 vs. #4.

Thanks to the Celtics having a better record, they won the Home court advantage for this Eastern Finals. They will play Games 1 and 2 at TD Garden in front of the Boston Crazies, where they are a perfect (7-0) and (7-0) ATS this 2018 Playoff Season. Boston has played one Series to 7 games and then getting job done quicker the past Series in 5 over Philly. Cavs took 7 games to beat the Pacers, but swept Toronto in 4.

Boston is (5-1) in games decided by 6 points or less, and the Cavs even better in the same department at (6-1). Cavs won the regular season by winning 2 of the 3 games these two faced off.

Celtics Rookie Jason Tatum has scored 20 points or more in 7 straight Playoff games, a Rookie Record. The Celtics were forced to play 4 young guys tons of minutes after losing it’s two highest paid players, Irving and Haywood. These young guys have stepped up every game really that was nip and tuck in final minutes, including beating the Sixers after trailing by 4 points with just over a minute to play.

The Celtics had the #1 Defense in the NBA this season, and the Cavs an almost dead last (29th) Defense. Cleveland’s Defense hasn’t been much better in these Playoffs, now 10th out of 16 teams. In the regular season the Cavs allowed (109.5) points per 100 possessions. In the Playoffs, it’s dropped ever so slightly to (108.4) points per 100 possessions.

The reason the Cavs whipped the Raptors so bad is the huge help, finally, from the long shooters the Cavs employ, with the two biggest names being Korver and Reid. Against Toronto, those two hit 24-38 from 3-Land for (63%). They both must repeat those type numbers vs. Boston, but it will be much harder as the Celtics rotate to the open man better then any other Defense in the League.

On Defense, the Celtics use pick and roll and dribble handoff’s for most of their “set plays” and that’s what Cleveland struggles most to defend. They are not a fast moving team and are often exploited for many wide open shots. The Celts seem to make them often when at home, not so much on the Road.

The Cavs were actually outscored by the Pacers in Round 1 by 40 points, but they have Lebron James, and the Pacers didn’t. James now is just playing his best hoops of his life, at times carrying the team in every phase, and now even hitting fade away jumpers like James Harden. The Celtics will be able to slow his “bull in a China Shop drives to the basket” and he likely won’t match the numbers he got in Rounds 1 and 2. During the regular season James averaged (24p-10.3 reb-8.3 assists) vs. the Celtics. The two teams combined for 100 points per 100 possessions.

The Cavs have pretty much had the Celtics number the past few seasons, knocking them out of the Eastern Finals last year, and even possess a (9-3) record at TD Garden.

LAS VEGAS SERIES ODDS AND GAME 1 LINE FOR SUNDAY MAY 13, 2018

SERIES:  CLEVELAND CAVS (-$280)  **  BOSTON CELTICS (+$230)

GAME 1:  CLEVELAND CAVS (-1 1/2 or -2)  **  TOTAL: (204 1/2)

GARY’S FINAL SHOTS:

Out of every 100 experts picking the winner of this Series, 98 pick Cleveland to advance to the Finals. It’s easy to pick Lebron here, as he’s won the last & Eastern Titles. But there is something to be said of the team who simply “wants it more” and that team is the Boston Celtics. Thanks to the Home Court advantage, I am picking the Celtics to win in 7 Games and pulling the “upset” to many, but not to me. The Celtics will slow Lebron more then anyone else has, and the young studs will just keep delivering. In what is a Head Coaching “MISMATCH” edge for Bostons Stevens over Cavs Lue, the Celtics will be better prepared by a country mile and send James home to watch the Finals for the first time in nearly a decade. BOSTON CELTICS IN 7 GAMES  (+$230)

I want to wish everyone a “Happy Mother’s Day” and to all Moms, enjoy your most Special and “DESERVING” Day.  May all your wagers be WINNING ones!

We pushed our only pick today on the NHL Hockey Game between Vegas and Winnipeg as the TOTAL: “UNDER 6” fell right on the number.

God Bless.
