What could be more natural than the current biggest movie in the world and the current biggest game in the world crossing over in some way? Nothing! But it almost never happens.Out of the blue it seems “The Mad Tyrant” Thanos from Avengers Infinity War is coming to Fortnite Battle Royale.
Starting tomorrow, a new mode will unlock for Fortnite called “Infinity Gauntlet” allowing a player to find the Infinity Gauntlet and become Thanos. What the range of their powers are and the limit of time they can stay Thanos (if there is one) we don’t know. Seeing how a fully gem’d Infinity Gauntlet gives Thanos essentially the power to re-shape all reality, we’re excited to see how that plays into a match of Fortnite. *SNAP* Victory Royale!
So how does something like that happen? Sometimes it’s as simple as both companies being fans of one another.
As it turns out, Avengers: Infinity War co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo — just like rapper Drake and the millions of other players worldwide — are massive Fornite fans.
“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe exclusively told EW. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”
That would be Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games.
In an interesting twist, there will be no Avengers or other Marvel skins up for sale during the event nor any persistent offerings. This is purely a marketing and awareness play by both companies.
We can’t wait to see how this plays out for ourselves and what famous players like Ninja will do with the mode as well. See you in the battle tomorrow!
