MLB “SHOWCASE GAME OF THE DAY” AND SOME “WHO’S HOT – WHO’S NOT” AS WELL! (*SAT. MAY 5, 2018)

PUJOLS JOINS 3000 HIT CLUB, DODGERS THROW COMBINED NO HITTER AND ROCKIES/METS PREVIEW FOR “SHOWCASE GAME OF DAY”!

Well for Angels fans, Albert Pujols 3000th hit came one game too late, as he got the hit on the opening game of Road trip in Seattle. He is now the 32nd hitter to get 3,000 hits and 4th member to get 3,000 hits/600 Homers. He singled off Mariners Pitcher Mike Leake for #3000.

Also on Friday night, the Dodgers got a combined No-Hitter from 4 Pitchers. Starter Walker Buehler, in only his 3rd major league start, went 6 innings, and three Relievers (Cingrani, Garcia and Liberatore) all worked one hitless inning to combine for the second no hit game of 2018. It’s the 12th combined no hitter in MLB History.  Strangely it wasn’t played in either teams Home ballpark, but in Mexico, a rare time MLB teams have played a game in the country since 1999. The Dodgers won 4-0 over the hapless Padres.

HOT /COLD STREAKS IN MLB

Washington Nationals – Won 6 straight games.

NY Yankees – (9-1) last 10 games overall.

L A Angels  – now (12-2) on the Road this season with 4 straight wins.

Baltimore Orioles – shockingly (3-1) on Road vs. NYY, but (0-13) vs. all other teams. (3-14)

Texas Rangers – dreaded (5-13) at Home so far this season.

PITCHERS/ PLAYERS HOT AND COLD STARTS TO 2018 SEASON

Seattle M’s Dee Gordon – Team is (16-6) when he gets 1 hit and (1-6) when he gets no hits.

Milw Brewers – Lorenzo Cain – leads team in hits, steals and on base %, Pitching staff now tops in MLB with (3.19) ERA. The Bullpen has been one of best in MLB thus far.

Toronto Blue Jays – Tyler Clippard – Reliever: (4-0), (1.76 ERA), (15 K’s), (15 1/3 innings).

Houston Astros – Gerrit Cole (3-1), (1.42 ERA), (50.2 Innings), (26 hits), (77 K’s), (9W), (5) Starts of (7.0) innings, one start (6.2) and one a complete 9 inning game. Best in MLB so far.  He is avg, (13.18) innings per 9 this year, was only (7.6) two seasons ago.

Minny Twins – Lance Lynn (did sign late on March 11), (0-3), (8.37 ERA), (23 Walks with only 26 K’s), (5 Homers allowed), (27 Hits in just 23.2 innings), only 1 start lasted past 5th inning. Total Bust signing so far and do Not Bet this guy, his command right now is horrific, and lefties are crushing him.

Texas Rangers – Bartolo Colon – (2.87 ERA) in first 6 starts, had a near No-no as well, been best Bargain of the offseason free agent signings so far.

L A Dodgers Closer Kenley Jansen – been terrible so far, with (4.97 ERA), 2 blown saves, allowed (3) homers in only (12.2) innings pitched, very few clean innings in his (13) appearances.

Colorado Rockies – Bryan Shaw – off season big signing, but bust so far. (6.75 ERA) in 18 appearances, and (19) hits in just (15.2) innings, also giving up (3) homers.

Chicago Cubs – Yu Darvish – big signing off season, another huge bust so far. Has 4 bad starts so far, including bombed last start, and only 2 quality starts. Signed for 6/$126 Million, and Cubs do not make Playoffs if this same continues all season. He has looked “rattled badly” to me in 3 different starts, which is puzzling for veteran Pitcher with normally “good stuff”. Do NOT bet this guy until he gets back into his old groove.

GREENE LIGHT SPORTS DISTRICT MLB “SHOWCASE GAME OF NIGHT” (5/5/18)

COLORADO ROCKIES (18-15) @ NY METS (17-13) @ Citi Field (7pm/EST)

VEGAS ODDS:  NY Mets (MATZ) (-125) (TOTAL: 8) vs. Colorado (BETTIS)

The Mets started off (11-1) and now are ice cold winning only 6 of their last 18 games. They have lost 4 straight games, losing last night to the Rockies, following being swept at Home the prior 3 games and being outscored (21-2) to the Braves in that sweep. Good news albeit in loss last night is they scored 7 runs.

The Starting Pitching edge tonight goes to Colorado Starter Bettis over Mets Matz.

Bettis is (3-1), (2.43 ERA), in 6 starts, not allowing over 5 hits in any of those 6 starts. He has gone (7+) innings in each of his last 4 starts, allowing over (2) earned runs just once. He has allowed (4) homers and has allowed (13) walks. Overall he is becoming a very reliable and solid starter for the Rockies.

Matz is coming off a missed start due to back stiffness. That alone is Always a sign “NOT to bet” a Pitcher, as he could easily leave game early with same problem. His last start he lasted only (3 1/3) innings, giving up (7) runs. He’s allowed at least (3) earned runs in 4 of his last 5 starts, also not going deep in any of them, with (5) innings or less in all but one start. His longest start has only gone (5.1) innings. He’s walked (10), allowed (5) homers in just (22) overall innings pitched this season.

Both Pitchers tonight come in with awful career records vs. opponent life time, as Bettis is (6.23) ERA, in 3 career starts vs. Mets, and Matz even worse (9.00) ERA, in 3 career starts vs. Colorado.

Happy Derby Day and Cinco de Mayo Day as well, and may all your wagers be Winning ones.
