The 2018 NFL Draft is finally in the books, and Round 1 ended the way it started,  with bookend at the all important QB position!

This Draft had so many different Mock ones predicted it was never going to pan out too well for perfection from anyone doing one, sharp or average Joe. The Browns surely threw a fast wrench into it right from the get go, selection QB Baker Mayfield, who many had as the likely fourth QB taken overall. Then the Browns threw a second wrench, bypassing possibly the best Defensive Player to come out in years, Bradley Chubb.

The Giants, picking second and in dire need of a future star to take over the reins from Eli Manning, who likely has one, two years best left in this league. But they just couldn’t pass on possibly the most talented all around RB in years, in Saquon Barkley. Those first two picks opened the door for the hapless Jets to select many top Scouts number 1 QB overall, Sam Darnold.

The biggest shocker to me was Cleveland taking CB Denzel Ward and not putting in a card for NC State superstud DL Bradley Chubb. The Denver Broncos War Room though jumped for joy like no team in years seeing him still be available at #5. Even John Elways past failures at the Draft can mess that pick up, as Chubb will be sensational and he even got the best Teacher possible to help his ride in Broncos Von Miller. To me the best match/for any Player chosen was this Broncos grabbing of B. Chubb.

I do feel the best QB in this Draft, if he can stay healthy, is Arizona’s first round pick, UCLA’s Josh Rosen. He is the most ready of any QB taken, and I feel got sent to the best team for him as he likely can ease into season 1 watching Sam Bradford play, and as we all know, that won’t last too long before Bradford gets hurt. Once he does, Rosen will secure that QB top spot in the Desert for years to come.

I loved the Bucs pick of Vita Vea, as well as my team the Redskins picking Da’Ron Payne. Both will immediately help their Defense’s to stop the run, something neither teams team well last season. I felt the Chargers pick at #17 was the best later round pick of the first Round. Grabbing Safety Derwin James was like a gift from Heaven. This kid could be the second coming of former Redskin Safety, Sean Taylor. All three of these teams won big in Round 1.

I felt Atlanta got very lucky to grab stud Bama WR Calvin Ridley, as he will be perfect addition to an already loaded and gifted Offense. As usual, the Pats pick almost last in Round 1, yet they somehow walk away with one of the prized jewels of this draft, snaring one half of Georgia’s two headed monster at RB, getting Sony Michel.

Another team that hit the lottery not picking in the Top 10, was the Dolphins grabbing super stud from Alabama’s #1 Defense, Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. He will be an All Star in the Defensive Backfield for many years to come as he may be the smartest Defensive Player picked in this 2018 Draft. I also felt the Packers filled a very dire need grabbing a solid Cornerback they desperately needed in CB Jaire Alexander.

The Colts needed to grab some help for often injured QB Andrew Luck, and they did just that adding the best OL in the Draft, and by a huge margin, getting Notre Dames Quenton Nelson. He will immediately step in Day 1 and be a huge help to a really pathetic OL that Indy has fielded these past few seasons.

And of course the first round ended Thursday night with a huge bang, as the Ravens grabbed the next possible Michael Vick as their future QB, Lamar Jackson. Round 1 started with a Heisman Trophy winner and it ended with one as well. This first Round really was exciting and I think most teams feel they came away with a solid player for years to come, with the Browns and Bills possibly grabbing two.

I’ll update the rest of the 2108 NFL Draft in a few days as I take a few days to analyze who did great, who did so so, and who failed this Draft overall.

But for now, every teams fans has a little more Hope then they had a few days ago.

Can’t wait to get the new season started in September. I just love the NFL and it’s going to be really interesting to see how many of these young QB’s taken in Round 1 get to see some significant playing time. Looks like Darnold has the best shot to start week 1, if he can beat out 50 year (haha) veteran QB McCown. The others may have to hold a clip board for at least a few weeks.
