MATCHUP: BOSTON RED SOX (PORCELLO) @ TORONTO BLUE JAYS (4/24/18)

VEGAS ODDS:  BOSTON RED SOX (-114)                                                                                        TOTAL:  OFFSHORE (8 RUNS)   * VEGAS (8 1/2 RUNS) (-$1.30 Shaded to UNDER)

WEATHER: Due to 60% chance of Rain, the roof will likely be Closed for this game.

Let’s first look at the Red Sox, who reeled off 17 wins in first 19 games this season, before a little blip over weekend at Oakland, where they even got no hitted by A’s Manaea. Only 1 run in two weekend games for the Sawk, but luckily their Ace Rick Porcello goes tonight. So far this season it looks like the 2016 version and not the 2017 version of Porcello, which if this stays to form all season, it could be another Cy Young Award going Rick’s way. In 2016, Porcello went (22-4) in (223 innings) with (189 K’s) and (.230 opp batting avg. against). Last year, he never got into a good groove, and finished (11-17) with a (4.65) ERA.

This season though in his first 4 starts, Porcello is possibly the Best Pitcher in the league, with (4) wins, (0) homers allowed, (25.2) innings pitched, (23) K’s and only 1 walk, none in past 3 starts combined. Opponents are hitting only (.206) so far this new season. His 2 seam Fastball has been electric and he’s gotten hitters completely off balance. This is exactly how he looked in his Cy Young ’16 season. The Sox will be tough to beat if he and Price continue to pitch at this high level.

Toronto counters with (L) J.A. Happ, who is (3-1) so far, but hasn’t pitched well at all. He has a (4.50) ERA, and in his 3 April starts, he’s allowed (17) hits in just (17/1) innings of work. He’s allowed (9) earned runs, as giving up (4) homers as well. He’s also not gone deep in any of those 3, going just (5.1), (6.0), (6.0) and laboring to high pitch counts in all 3 (93, 104, 99). He does have (26) K’s so far, but he is really nibbling and won’t fare well falling behind the meat of this Red Sox lineup.

Toronto comes into this game losing 3 of it’s last 4 games, and losing it’s last 2 in the Bronx by a combined (14-2) score.

GARY’S GREENE LIGHT “PLAY OF THE DAY”: TAKE THE RED SOX (PORCELLO) (-$1.14) over the Blue Jays.
