Traditionally one of the first choices you make in any MMO is if you want to be on a Player Vs Player (PVP) server or a Player Vs. Environment (PVE) server. The core difference being that on a PVP server, players can attack one another at will. PVE servers on the other hand allow no combat between players and keeps all fighting between humans and the computer controlled enemies. Through the years games have riffed on this concept allowing players to toggle PVP at will and designating some zones of the world map to be PVP allowing PVE minded players to just steer clear of them.
In World of Warcraft PVP and PVP servers have been kept separate. That’s all about to change. At Blizzcon 2017 Blizzard has announced that starting with World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth all servers will be PVE. Players that want to fight one another will be using War Mode, an instance you enter from any Capitol City in Azeroth.
War Mode will have it’s own rewards and XP modifiers to reflect the risk players take entering. We’re looking forward to more info as the newest expansion draws closer to release.
