EPIC MLB MATCHUP OF TWO BEST TEAMS IN BASEBALL – OHTANI FEVER INCLUDED TOO!
BOSTON RED SOX @ LA ANGELS (TUES APRIL 17, 2018) * (7PM/PST)
(L) DAVID PRICE (1-1) * (2.40 ERA) vs. (R) SHOHEI OHTANI (2-0) * (2.08 ERA)
It may be only mid-April but this game and Series is going to have Playoff atmosphere, especially tonight as the new sensation “SHOW TANI” will take the mound for the Angels, and if he stays as good as he’s been so far, the Angels will have sold out crowds for every start he makes. Add in the Red Sox always help fill the seats and the joint will be jumping tonight.
The Red Sox come in with the best record in MLB (13-2), and also on a (13-1) run as they have gotten a tremendous start from the entire Pitching staff, and the red hot bats of Mookie Betts (18 hits, 9 extra base hits) and Hanley Ramirez (15 RBI’s) with some big hits from new big bat J.D. Martinez (13 RBI’s) and it’s easy to see the Sox are back to being elite again. This is the start of a long 9 game Road trip for the Red Sox, and they catch a team playing as Hot as they are in the Angels.
The Angels are (13-3) and winners of 7 straight games and they’ve done most of their early damage without solid offseason pickup 2B Ian Kinsler. He’s played only 3 games, but he will bolster an already potent lineup at the top of the order. The Angels have 6 starters hitting over (.282) and Mike Trout already has (6) homers and (13) RBI’s. Only one regular, RF Calhoun, hasn’t gotten off to fast start. He’s hitting only (.231).
PAIR OF ACES: Price vs. Ohtani is a Dream Pitching Matchup
Price started the season with (14) scoreless innings, but in his last start vs. NYY, he lasted only one inning, allowing (4) earned runs and left do to cramping in his wrist. He said it was so cold, his hand never got warm and never got a good feel for the baseball. Weather tonight should not pose that threat again.
Ohtani had a miserable Spring Training, but he surely flipped on the switch immediately when the real games started. He’s been the duel threat the Angels had hoped for, pitching 2 gems and already scorching at the Plate with (3 homers) and (11 RBI’s) in limited DH duty. He’s pitched both starts vs. the Oakland A’s and in (13) innings he’s allowed only (4) hits and has (18) K’s and only (2) walks. His last start he entered the 7th inning with a Perfect game in tact. His stuff can be utterly filthy and unhittable when he’s on.
Due to rain outs both starters will be going with extra rest. Price will go on 6th day and Ohtani on 8th day. Pitchers are creatures of habit, and although extra rest would seem good, it sometimes can be a bad thing. At times they have “too live” of an arm. It will be interesting to watch two key factors here. Is Price having a problem with hand or was it the cold that affected him for just that one night? Can Ohtani step up vs. a solid lineup in a such an electric atmosphere? We will find out and the winner will have a leg up on the battle for “BEST IN BASEBALL” so far.
BETTING ANGLE / VEGAS STYLE:
LA ANGELS (-160) TOTAL RUNS (8)
Key note: Mookie Betts is a game time call here, and if he’s out, thats a huge loss to Sox lineup.
